At Notre Dame Preparatory School, the belief that each student has a unique combination of God-given strengths, challenges, and passions is the foundation of its educational philosophy. To help students achieve their personal best, NDP offers comprehensive academic support through the Batza & Simon Academic Services & Enrichment Center, commonly referred to as the Learning Resource Center or LRC.

This vibrant hub of academic assistance is staffed with dedicated specialists available Monday through Friday on NDP’s campus. Students in the middle and high schools can drop in for quick guidance or schedule one-on-one sessions to tackle challenges ranging from test prep and study planning to math and reading support. With specialists always on-site, accessing help is seamless and convenient during the school day.

A Space Designed for Every Learner

The Learning Resource Center is an inviting, light-filled space featuring flexible environments to accommodate diverse learning styles. Cozy corners with rocking chairs, individual study carrells, and modular furniture for group work ensure that every student finds a comfortable spot to focus and thrive.

“We want this center to be a place where students feel confident and comfortable seeking out the extra help they may need,” shares Carol Yoos, coordinator of the Susie Simon ’71 Reading Program.

Specialized Support Services

The LRC offers tailored resources for students at all academic levels.

  • General Academic Support:
Learning specialists work with students to develop formal education plans, coach time management, and study skills, as well as provide strategies to navigate academic challenges.
  • Math and Reading Assistance:
With specialists like Stacy Wilson for math and Carol Yoos for reading, students can receive support on subjects ranging from foundational math to AP Calculus II, or targeted help with reading comprehension and fluency through the Susie Simon ’71 Reading Program.
  • Writing Resources:
A dedicated writing specialist helps students enhance their writing skills, supporting everything from essays and research papers to creative projects.

Peer-to-Peer Tutoring

NDP also encourages collaborative learning through peer tutoring. Generous members of honor societies, like the Science National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, provide science and math tutoring, creating a supportive academic community.

Students peer-to peer tutoring follow classmates in the bright, light-filled Notre Dame Preparatory Library.

The Heart of Holistic Education

Kathy Wilder, NDP’s new Director of Learning Resource Services, is equally passionate about the Center’s mission. “Watching students rise to a challenge and reach their ‘ah ha’ moment spurs me to learn beside the girls each day. Their energy and promise for a better future inspire me every day, ” she says.

Notre Dame Preparatory School is committed to nurturing each student’s academic journey. Whether she’s mastering middle school basics, navigating high school complexities, or preparing for college entrance exams, NDP ensures that each student has the tools to succeed.
