NCEA Award: Three-Peat Alert!

For the third consecutive year, the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) has honored a Notre Dame Preparatory School educator for outstanding teaching.

Mrs. Marianne Reichelt, Notre Dame Preparatory School English teacher, has received NCEA’s Lead. Learn. Proclaim. Award. The award honors those teachers who demonstrate strong Catholic educational philosophy as well as exceptional ability, skills, and results. A parishioner at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Baltimore City, Mrs. Reichelt will receive the award at NCEA’s Annual Convention in April in Chicago, Illinois.

Previous NDP Lead. Learn. Proclaim. honorees include Mrs. Mary Agnes Sheridan, NDP Middle Level mathematics teacher and STEAM coordinator (2017), and Mr. Tom Peri, Upper Level science teacher (2018).

“Whether it is in the classroom, on a retreat, or presenting professional development to the faculty and staff, Mrs. Reichelt exemplifies all that this special award represents,” said Sister Patricia McCarron, SSND, Ph.D., headmistress.  “We are deeply grateful to have someone in our midst who is so passionate about teaching and committed to her students’ learning.”

With more than four decades of experience, Mrs. Reichelt has been an exemplary English teacher as well as a focused academic leader. Her students consistently excel on Advanced Placement exams, and alumnae regularly report that Mrs. Reichelt prepared them outstandingly for college-level English. Year over year, her enthusiasm for literature has fueled instructional creativity and has inspired students. Mrs. Reichelt’s annual “Beowulf Bash,” in which students act out the epic in costume, is a highlight in the English Department each school year.

During her 17 years at Notre Dame Prep, she has served as English Department chair, as a committee co-chair for NDP’s Middle States Re-Accreditation effort, and most notably, as acting principal, stepping in when the existing administrator left for medical leave. At the parish level, Mrs. Reichelt has served as a religious education teacher, liturgy planner, and marriage preparation speaker.

Prior to joining Notre Dame Prep, Mrs. Reichelt served at St. Mark’s School as a teacher and religion department coordinator and taught locally at Loyola College (University), Community College of Baltimore County, Calvert Hall College, and Bishop O’Reilly High School. Her other awards include the Cardinal’s Award for Teaching Excellence from the Archdiocese of Baltimore (1999 and 2010); NDP’s Mildred Motsko Hunt Award for exceptional teaching (2013); and NDP’s Hyacinths for the Soul award for dedication to Catholic education (2016).  As the recipient of NDP’s Sister Ellis Denny Faculty Enrichment Grant, she traveled to England in 2011 to study literature at Oxford University, an experience she shared with her colleagues upon her return.

Mrs. Reichelt received her B.A. in English from Marywood College (now University) and her M.A. in English from The Catholic University of America.

Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Reichelt on this wonderful honor!
